Coenzyme Q10 (Ubiquinone) is a lipid-soluble benzoquinone. It is essential for mitochondrial ATP production. In skin terms, it functions as a potent antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals generated by UV exposure and environmental pollutants. However, incorporating it into a formula is not as simple as adding a standard vitamin. It is a large, hydrophobic molecule with specific delivery requirements.
The efficacy of Q10 in skincare relies entirely on its purity and the crystalline state of the powder. Pure Q10 is a vibrant yellow-orange powder. If your raw material is pale, the purity is likely compromised or the product is mislabeled.

Q10 has a relatively low melting point (around 50°C). This makes it highly sensitive to heat. If you heat your oil phase above 60°C during emulsion, you risk degrading the molecule before the product even leaves the factory.
Q10 is notoriously difficult to stabilize. It wants to crystallize and precipitate. To keep it active, you must force it into a stable lipid environment.

I often see Q10 used in low-cost, watery serums. This is a waste of material. Q10 needs oil to penetrate. If you are building a serum, look into using phospholipid-based delivery systems (like lecithin) to create an oil-in-water nano-emulsion.
