I. Source and Properties

Totarol is a diterpenoid compound mainly extracted from the heartwood of New Zealand totara. It usually appears as a white to light yellow crystalline powder. In terms of solubility, totarol has good solubility in organic solvents but low solubility in water. At the same time, it has good chemical stability and can maintain its activity under appropriate storage conditions.

II. Main Effects

Antibacterial effect: Totarol strongly inhibits various bacteria, especially those causing skin problems like Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes. It stops bacterial growth on the skin by destroying cell membranes and interfering with metabolic processes, significant for preventing and treating skin inflammation like acne.
